So as you can tell, I am back at the bustle oven in the Family Living Center. It kind of seems like I work here pretty frequently, and Sister Holmstead is getting used to me. That means that today, I get to make the bread in the bustle ovens!!!! Yep, you heard me right. Make and cook the bread in a bustle oven. So I start and mix the dough, half wheat, half white, and then do my best to knead it. Elder Holmstead comes to help out because it is hard work. Then we let it raise in the proofing box. We make it into six loaves and put them three at a time in the oven. The oven when we put the wood in and start the fire, burns for two hours. The temperature is then over 500*. We let it cool for two hours and then do our test, hand, arm etc. Then put it in the oven and close the door. I am checking on it every ten minutes because I don’t want to fail in my first solo flight!
Right out of the bustle oven!!! What do you think. Tastes pretty good too. Needless to say, I am pretty happy. But I still would have made a lousy pioneer.
In the meantime, between tours, I am back in the back sewing!!! Yep, sewing strips together for us to make our rugs on the weaving loom………
This winter I guess that I will get to help piece quilts as well.Television did you say, What’s that!
So it is Sunday now and Richard and I worked back at the Family Living Center. It has been a while since Richard has been here and he sat at the weaving loom for the three hours. Now he knows about weaving and looks quite efficient doing it. I am actually impressed. I would like to learn myself but so far it seems to be the mans job.
Pretty impressive. He also cut all of this wood out back for the fires that we make in the bustle ovens. Quite a jack of all trades……Thank heavens this isn’t the woman’s job.
