So on Sundays Richard and I get to work together. This Sunday we were assigned to the Blacksmith. In here they tell about how wagons and wheels are made and how the forge is used and horseshoes etc. are put together. Richard actually had to demonstrate! He did a great job and actually I think looks quite handsome for a blacksmith. I however was opposed to getting my hands dirty and sweating more profusely than normal so I worked in the office. I think Richard was quite proud of himself. The elders here all seem to like this dirty hands stuff.
Hot metal and a hammer………………………………..
Finished product. I can still see us years ago bringing our children here and getting the prairie diamond rings. Who would have ever thought we would be here in this capacity?????
So while Richard was out in the forge area, I was in the “office,” sweating and making those little prairie diamond rings! Now when I see them just thrown around I have issues……..
Notice the grease and grime on my fingers! Unacceptable!!!!!!
A boo-boo from not getting my thumb out of the way in time. My first injury as a missionary.
Me whipping that metal around like it was nothing. It’s amazing what skills I have as well. Here’s hoping to being assigned somewhere else cooler, safer, and less manly!
You guys are my heroes! I remember so many times going to Nauvoo and getting the Prairie wedding bands but also praying that my birthday was the closest so that I could get the horseshoe (I don't think it ever was because I traveled with Jacqui and Jonathan who both had closer birthdays than me). Oh well.
ReplyDeleteThank you for including photos of Dad. I hope he is getting to do some things in Old Nauvoo instead of just repairing stuff. You both look so wonderful in your period attire. I really miss you.
And Happy Birthday Mom!
