We got to go see the pageant on a night last week. I haven’t been able to post about it until now. Today is Saturday and we have just gotten back from Burlington. I actually went to Hobby Lobby!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Boy, am I homesick for some normalcy, but that is as close as I will get. Oh wait, I go to Wally World every week so I should be fine, right?
The Pageant lasts until the 4th of August. The main performers are professional actors and some are even from Britain. They have the parts of Joseph Smith, Emma, Parley P. Pratt, John Taylor, and Brigham Young. They are amazing with these booming voices and very convincing presence. The supporting cast is made of families. They come one week and practice while another cast is performing and then they perform the next week and the cycle continues. They young YPM’S are involved as well.
They also put on a vignette in the Seventies Hall. Sister Schkrahowsky and I went to lunch on Thursday and then ran and saw this little play. They were amazing and kind of made you think you were in old Nauvoo.
They have a county fair before the pageant and it is wonderful. It makes you long for the good old days when fun was just plain fun. They had games.
Tug of War………………….
Racing bears…………………………
Puppet shows…………………………….
Round dances……………………..The kids were having a ball. This is a youth conference from Oklahoma……………………………….
Bands made up of guitars, violins, bagpipes, all volunteers…………..
Me with the lead singer!!!!!!
Games of stickball………………………….
Opening for the pageant! There are my little band members, they work so hard. I think they said they were losing so much weight they had to have their clothes altered.
Opening scene with Joseph Smith. Notice the temple in the background.
This couple was from Scotland…….
These are people in heaven that are watching out over these pioneers. I nearly jumped out of my seat when they walked up behind them!
At the end of the show the temple lights up and President Hinckley’s voice talks, I bawled, how breathtaking…………………………
Final scene, it was really an amazing production. How anyone could see this and not know how much Jesus Christ means to us would be unforgivable.
