P-DAY!!!!! HOORAY!

IMG_0436
Today was our preparation day which means that we get to do some things that we want and we are basically off.  So we started our day with me sleeping in. Then mowed the grass and off we went to the temple.  This is my favorite temple, of course, I haven’t seen Kansas City’s yet.  I love the history of the temple.  Found out a new insight today.  When you look closely at the temple you can see smaller stones leading up only so far, then a line of stones is run around the temple and from there on up the stones are larger.  I guess when the Prophet Joseph was killed the temple had only been built up so high, They stopped production.  Then Brigham Young ordered for the temple to be finished and they didn’t have much time so the stones became larger.  So much was finished after the prophet died, and yet they knew that they were getting ready to be driven out.  It’s completion was a tribute to their God.

I love the architecture!

It is so beautiful inside and the spiral wooden staircase is my favorite. The celestial room is so inviting with it’s yellow and white decor and the high, high ceilings.

We went to the brickyard to get a tour before we work there tomorrow.  These young people and this church historian were there doing this archaeology survey.  They have found a foundation right next to the brickyard using this new technology.

This machine is new technology, it sends sonar rays down into the ground.  They measure the ground in one foot grids both ways and then put the information into a computer and it  maps out what is underground!  Imagine!

We were seeing history being recorded.  This place is amazing.

After we went to see Sunset tonight we drove around for awhile.  Pictures simply do not do this place justice.  The weather has been so wonderful.  So we drove around and ended up at the Joseph Smith Cemetery.

Landing where the Saints crossed the frozen Mississippi.
So much to see and do here, but I am grateful for the quiet moments that we have to just sit and absorb the beauty and spirit that is Nauvoo.  Someone told me today that it is a special privilege to tell these peoples stories.  I hope I am doing a good job.  This week I will be working at five new places.  So much to learn and we will start to perform as well.  Tomorrow we have to be to church at 7:15 am to greet people for church.  Who wants to be greeted at 7:15!!!!  Then we have RS and then on to work at the brickyard, then a Zone Conference tomorrow night.  Not much time to even eat.  So, I will try every day to blog, but that  is if I am still standing.  I am ready for the learning curve to lessen a little bit.  What a busy summer.  I will be sending out the schedule.  I guess the Pageant is spectacular.  There are professional actors from England and other professionals.  It is the only pageant written by the First Presidency.  The BYU Ballroom Dance Team will be here in June, as well as the Native Performers from BYU.  The Smithsonian will be having an exhibit here through the month of September so not a lack of things to see and do.  Signing off.  My bed is calling my name.  7:30##**&&&&&&%^^^^^^^^^^^^^
