It’s HOTTER THAN HELL, AND I AM NOT SWEARING………

I DON’T EVER REMEMBER BEING THIS HOT IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.! Maybe it has to do with the 8 and a half yards of fabric in my costume, including knee high socks, a slip, pantaloons, (in case someone were to see my ankles, heaven forbid) and closed toed shoes.  IN OVER 100* weather with a humidity index in outer space!!!!!!  Reminds me of when I was in drill team as a young girl.  Everyone else just sparkled and I was soaked to the skin, hair plastered to my head (and we all know how picky I am about my “poofy” hair) makeup gone!!! So, I am working on improving my attitude…………………………………………..still working……………………
This was our P-day and so Richard and I set out for Quincy. On the way they were giving tours of the Keokuk Hydro-Electric Power Plant.  They haven’t given tours since 911.  So this was a two day opportunity and we took it.  Of course, I understood absolutely nothing about it, logical things have always remained a puzzle to me.  IMG_0917
All I know is that my Daddy would have loved it.  I remember when they were excited about the lock and dam going in at Eufala.  So Daddy, enjoy. They say that these lock and dams work 24 hours a day.  We see big barges on the river all the time, pushed by these little tug boats.

This was the earlier lock and dam.  They are celebrating the 100th anniversary this year.

We see this water being let in all of the time.

Saw quite a few boats out today.  I asked if anybody ever swam in the river.  The answer was, “Only for their lives!”  I guess the under currents are pretty swift.

Not exactly sure what this was………………………..
Of course, we met Kyle and Jill here.  He is an engineer and was trying to explain things to me.  I think he could tell that it was going over my head, but he was loving it.

Picture of the early years.  See all of the men sitting on the top of the turbine.  You can imagine how big they are.

We went over to the Openshaws tonight to have supper.  So fun to get together,  They have these in their yard all of the time.  There was an 8 point buck also but by the time I got my camera out, he was running!!!!!!
