I was working in Land and Records the other day and a very well dressed man came in. I helped him look up his ancestors in Nauvoo. I always ask people what brings them to Nauvoo, and this was his response. “I had three very good friends who have all passed away in the last six months. It has been life changing for me. I have decided that life is very fragile at best, and I am going to make the most of my time here.” Keep in mind that this man was probably about 50. He lives in Washington D.C. On the first Tuesday of each month, he has made it his goal to travel somewhere in the world that he has always wanted to go and do whatever it is that he wants to do. (Now seriously, he must have some kind of a slush fund!) But it got me to thinking, what would be on my bucket list? If I could do anything I wanted, or go anywhere I wanted to go, what would it be?
1. Take my parents anywhere in the world they would like to go. Allow them to have some of their dreams fulfilled while I have the opportunity to help facilitate that.To have the blessing of making them happy and making special memories at the same time.
2. I would probably go to Disney World with my family as many times as possible. OVER AND OVER AND OVER. It is my favorite place on earth. I would love to be able to take my children and grandchildren and maybe even go on the Disney Cruise! Wouldn’t that be awesome!!!!
3. I would love to visit England and Ireland and see where my ancestors came from. On this trip, I would love for my brother and his wife to come.
4. I would love to learn how to paint, Probably oil painting, drawing, watercolor. I would really love to learn how to do this.
5. I would love to learn how to play the piano better.
6. I would love to just take road trips throughout the United States, seeing sites that I have only read about. I love history.
7. I would love to be able to see that I have my genealogy completed. Temple work and all.
8. I would love to do things with my in-laws, spend time together in the mountains, enjoying our togetherness.
9. Most of my bucket list probably does not consist of specific things. I guess I have always used my heart more than my head, and that gets me into trouble, but it is who I am and at this time in my life, I have finally realized that is OKAY. So mainly, I want to make memories with my family that help them realize how they are loved, to be a good example, to support and maybe every so often lift and inspire, to make sure that there are no empty chairs in Heaven. Now that’s high on my bucket list.
